HORVÁTH Dezső
Fields of interest: Nuclear Physics, Particle Physics
Dezső Horváth received his MSc in Physics at the Eötvös Loránd University of Budapest in 1970. He made his PhD studies at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (Dubna, Russia) and later worked at particle accelerators in St. Petersburg, at TRIUMF (Vancouver, Canada), at Brookhaven National Laboratory (USA), at the Paul Scherrer Institute (Switzerland) and at various facilities of CERN. On behalf of the Wigner Research Centre for Physics he organized joint Budapest – Debrecen research teams for CERN experiments. He participates in the work of the Hungarian CMS group at the Large Hadron Collider of CERN and teaches particle physics at the University of Debrecen and at the Babes-Bolyai University. Since 2006 he organizes the lectures of the Hungarian Teacher Programmes at CERN. For his scientific accomplishments he received in 2012 the Széchenyi Prize of Hungary. He is the author of 1700 scientific publications, more than 100 scientific outreach papers, and several books.
